Phidias

For the first time in Italy, from 24 November 2023 to 5 May 2024 at the Capitoline Museums – Villa Caffarilli in Rome, a monographic exhibition dedicated to Phidias, the greatest Greek sculptor of the classical age. The press conference to present the exhibition will be held on the 23rd at 12:00

Protagonist of Periclean Athens, whose name is known to all for the creation of works such as the Parthenon and its sculptural decorations and the Colossus of Zeus in Olympia, described as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, his creative genius left an indelible mark on the collective imagination and continues to be a source of inspiration for contemporaries.

The PHIDIAS exhibition, promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and curated by Claudio Parisi Presicce with the organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura, Main sponsor Bulgari, inaugurates the cycle of five exhibitions “The Great Masters of Ancient Greece” which intends to introduce the main protagonists of Greek sculpture to the general public. A series that acquires even more meaning in Rome, the city from which very important evidence of the activity of Phidias and other Greek artists comes, through the precious Roman copies of original masterpieces that have mostly been lost.
