JFF + INDEPENDENT CINEMA

The Japan Foundation is pleased to present JFF + INDEPENDENT CINEMA, a new review of films in worldwide streaming, with a selection of 12 independent Japanese films by the steering committee of some independent cinemas, the so-called “mini-theaters”, to which the credit for having encouraged a wider diversification of the offer in Japanese film culture.

The program includes 6 months of programming, divided into two periods, during a time frame that goes from 15 December 2022 to 15 June 2023.

To bring the excellence of Japanese cinema to overseas audiences during the pandemic period, The Japan Foundation kicked off the Japanese Film Festival Online (JFF Online) in 2020; during the latest edition of JFF Online 2022, a selection of 20 Japanese films were streamed in 25 countries around the world, gaining 540,000 views and reaching an audience of over 320,000 viewers around the globe.
