Riyadh will host the 11th World Water Forum in 2027

The 11th World Water Forum will take place in Saudi Arabia in 2027, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday. World Water Council officials said the Kingdom would host the international meeting after it won a majority of votes over Italy.

The World Water Council organizes the World Water Forum with a host country every three years, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge and fostering cooperation between global parties.

Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli noted that the Kingdom’s successful attempt to host the event showcased its achievements in achieving development, and economic and social goals despite the water scarcity. He highlighted that the country’s National Water Strategy has helped create comprehensive institutional frameworks and effective plans to ensure the provision of safe, clean, and high-quality water at affordable prices. The updated laws would encourage greater private sector involvement in the sector while improving access to clean and safe water for all and promoting the need for water management through sustainable methods in line with the goals of Vision 2030.

Despite being one of the countries with the most scarce water resources in the world, Saudi Arabia has modern and advanced infrastructure, regulations and laws that regulate the sector.
