The strategic implications of the war in Ukraine for Italy

In collaboration with the Institute for International Affairs, the Chamber of Deputies is hosting a conference on “The strategic implications of the war in Ukraine for Italy” which will be held on Wednesday 20 December at the Sala della Regina.

Nearly two years of Russia’s war on Ukraine carry strategic implications for NATO and European defense, in turn influencing Italy’s defense policy. The prolonged and large-scale, high-intensity conflict between almost equal forces on the ground – thanks to Western military support for Ukraine – presents a series of lessons also for the Italian armed forces, in each of the five operational domains (land, naval, air, space and cyber) and at joint force level. Finally, the ongoing war has direct and indirect implications for the aerospace and defense industry, at national and European levels. These themes are at the center of an IAI study which will be presented as a preview at the conference on 20 February 2024 at the Chamber of Deputies with the involvement of authoritative representatives of Parliament, government, armed forces and industry. An initiative aimed at promoting national reflection on the strategic implications of the conflict for Italy.
