The Italian-Latin American International Organization (IILA) announces the XV edition of the IILA-Literature Award, which reactivates the Literary Prize, in force from 1969 to 1996, with the aim of contributing to the dissemination and enhancement of translated contemporary Latin American literary production and published in Italian, promote new voices in Latin American literature, boost the translation and publishing industry.
The Prize is awarded to a work translated into Italian, published in Italy in the two-year period 2021-2022 and written by an author who is a citizen of a Latin American country member of the IILA: Argentina, Plurinational State of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The works will be evaluated by a high-level jury, made up of representatives of the Italian academic world specialized in the study and criticism of Latin American literature, which will award a Prize to the author of the best work and a Prize to the best translator of the works participants.
Participation is open to all publishing houses with registered offices in Italy that have published, in Italian, a work of fiction (novels or collections of short stories) in the two-year period 2021-2022. A prize will be awarded to the author, who will be awarded the sum of 5,000 euros, and who will be offered the trip and stay in Italy (for a maximum of seven days), the organization of the award ceremony and eventual presentations of the winning work at important events in the publishing sector and in the Italian universities concerned. Furthermore, a prize will be awarded to the best translator of the works received, who will be awarded the sum of 1,500 euros and will be offered a trip and stay in Italy (for a maximum of five days).
